In 2007 artists that where evicted from the Steinfeld Warehouse reestablished themselves at a new building on 9th street and called themselves 9th street studios. In 2014 that building had to be abandoned and 5 remaining members of 9th street moved to our current location in the old Firestone building at 6th Street and 6th Avenue.
We have 6 studios and a gallery in the front of our space called gallery Azul. We have 9 to 10 shows a year and this includes a spring and fall group show of studio members coinciding with the spring and fall open studios. We open our studios during those events as well as during the First Saturdays Art Walks. We also have begun to offer classes which we hope to expand.
To often artists are forced to constantly move. Even though our artistic nature is independent, we believe when we work together we are stronger and better able to preserve our work spaces, connections and Tucson’s artistic culture.
